May Never Again See A Ride Quite Like This One

Day 15. Chester to Havre. 61 miles. Dead straight. Almost dead flat. Nothing extraordinary about the scenery ... pretty, but in a stark kind of way. Especially compared to our first two weeks. You wouldn’t think it would be overly memorable. You’d be wrong. Two words ...

Tail.

Wind.

Okay, one word.

OMG ... we AVERAGED 23 mph. With a few starts and stops and a little bit of dawdling here and there, we were really doing about 26 or 28 most of the way. 2 hours and 38 minutes of giggling.

The three of us are growing ever more comfortable with each other in a pace line and on this day we just rocked it. There were a number of times when we were trucking along at 30mph, each separated from the other by about 18 inches. That includes once when we were on a long, 1% grade CLIMB.

There’s a nice downhill coming into the town of Havre. It’s not that steep ... nothing like coming down the mountain passes that we’re used to. Without even trying we topped out at 43mph. More giggling.

We all agreed that we’d never experienced anything quite like that ride, and may never again.
