Just prior to take-off ... we have a driver, but nothing to drive

Thank goodness that Boom had confirmed his willingness to drive support ... at least most of the way ... making the whole adventure possible. Unfortunately, although we had a driver, we still had nothing to drive. Yes, we could take one of our cars, but once we set our hearts on a more comfortable sag wagon, nothing else would really do.

Then we morphed from a van of some ilk, to an RV that could help cut lodging costs during the two months. Plus a civilized rolling location for a daily cocktail hour was beyond appealing.

OK ... we’ll find a used one for $30-$40K ... drive it across the country and then sell it, with hopes of getting most of our money back. Let me tell you ... there’s a lot of crap out there in the used RV market. Even the nicer ones just didn’t fit the bill for us ... layout and otherwise.

Then we got lucky ... we found a bee-yoo-teeful 2010 Winnebago in Denver that only had 22,000 miles on it. $53K? Heck, it’s worth it. You get what you pay for. We’ll get our money back more easily. Yada, yada ... rationalization after rationalization. Happily, those worked and we pulled the trigger.

Good thing, too ... the other woman who had been thinking about it was quickly and summarily bummed when she found out we had beat her to the punch.

Now ... after a quick and successful test road trip two weeks ago with Rob, Tom, Andy and Bill to play golf in Battlement Mesa, followed by 1,600 miles from Vail to Durango and then to the Seattle area ... we could NOT be more happy with the decision.

The only real question now is ... will we sell it post-trip as planned, or will one of us just keep this beauty for golf/biking/[fill-in-the-blank] future road trips? I’d say the odds are growing steadily toward the latter.

After Peach had to bail out of the trip, he was thoughtful and generous (as always) and had a logo designed for us. It still reflects his Canadian influence with the Maple Leaf flag, as well as the state flowers of Colorado, Texas, California and Ontario ... our collective points of origin for this shindig. Thoughtful to the max! C2C refers to Coast to Coast, with a hidden acknowledgement of “CC” (our alma mater), as well as “C2” (Cathy Craig’s frequent moniker). After all, the whole thing was her idea.

Tex was equally thoughtful in having magnetic stickers made for the RV.

Ya-hoo!
