Day 6 in the books

Day 6 in the books! The first three days were fab (it’s all fab). Roughly 50 miles and just under 2,500 feet of climbing each day. Perfect weather.

Day 4 was my fave so far. Cathy rode the 40 miles from Bremerton to Shelton, but Tex and I bailed out halfway, hopped in Vic and drove an hour to Chambers Bay Golf Course … site of the 2015 U.S.Open. The course is spectacular … definitely in my top ten list of all time.

Day 5 was a bit of a grunt. Not the ride so much as the weather … cold and rainy the whole way. Well, the whole way that we rode … which was only half of our planned Shelton to Centralia leg. Good move, though … it continued to pour for the entire “second half” drive in Vic and we repeatedly relished the fact that we were NOT riding it.

Today was another 50 from Centralia to Longview with the same old 2,500. It drizzled on us a good part of the way, and even when it was sunny, there was an awful lot of pavement spray. With all the mud spots Cath and I both looked a bit like leopards when we finished. Got a flat near the finish and waived the white flag … called Boom to come save us. Still big, BIG fun.

Boomer has found back-to-back ridiculously awesome places for dinner. After some Cinco de Mayo Margs in Vic, it was off to La Tarasca in Centralia last night for dinner … just the right amount of Mexican divey, with great food and an equally great vibe.

Tonight it was Hop-n-Grape which was a smokehouse joint attached to a killer beer and wine store. If you’re ever in Longview WA, do NOT miss it.

Tomorrow it’s off to Astoria (with the bonus of another ferry ride) and we’ll be meeting our old friends Sam, Mike & TLee! Woo-hoo! Life doesn’t get much better.
