A most welcome surprise!!

Some of you have heard us mention Sam Harper, probably more than once. Sam is a fellow classmate from Colorado College. He did this same cycling adventure a couple years ago only UNSUPPORTED…as in…no cushy RV to carry all your stuff. No RV to pick you up if you’re getting your butt kicked by a nasty headwind. He and his friend Mike did it by themselves, carrying all their gear.

Hence, Sam is our mentor and has been a wealth of information (we consult his journal daily). He is also the inventor of the infamous “State line dance”.

So a couple days ago we are rolling into Fargo and we get a text:

Sam: I’m driving across North Dakota, your SPOT says you’re in Fargo. I am too. Where are you?”

Us: “We just cycled into the parking lot at the Fargo Golf Club where the RV was waiting for us.”

Sam: Be there in 5 minutes.

Us: WHAT?????

Literally, 5 minutes later Sam and his wife Anna roll up to our RV. Hugs all around as Sam passes out packets of Peanut M&Ms (our mainstay). SO much to talk about- comparing notes, asking questions, catching up… Sam and Anna had a long drive ahead of them, so all too soon we had to say our goodbyes.

But the fact that we connected at all is remarkable. Thanks Sam! Hope we see you in Bar Harbor!
